Project Co-ordinator – New Forest Transition School and Community Energy Saving Project
Hours: 15 hours per week - term time – 40 weeks per year (44 weeks paid)
Salary: £6,800 pa (£20,000 Full Time Equivalent)
This is a temporary position for 2 years on a self-employed basis – start date September 2012

The New Forest Transition School and Community Energy Saving project has just been successful in securing funding from the New Forest National Park Authority for a 2 year project starting in September 2012 which will focus on saving energy in 10 schools and their communities based within the National Park Authority.
The project will use a variety of resources to deliver its aims including Minstead Study Centre, energy audits from Hampshire County Council and the purchase of a Thermal Imaging Camera. You will be crucial in ensuring the smooth co-ordination of each stage of the project, setting a baseline, monitoring progress and evaluating outcomes. Throughout the project you will be supported by members of the New Forest Transition group.
This exciting part time opportunity will require a resilient, flexible individual who can take this project forward alongside a group of volunteers who will work in each school. A commitment to energy saving on a personal level and a good understanding of the issues concerning energy are a requirement.

Job Description:
Job Title: Project Co-ordinator (Fixed Term – 2 years)
Responsible To: New Forest Transition Hub
Responsible For: Volunteer team of 10
Salary: 0.4 FTE term time only (44 week contract) £20,000 pa pro rata (actual of £6,800 pa)
Hours: 15 hours per week
Main Purpose:
To co-ordinate a pilot to support 10 schools and their communities to become money saving, energy efficient carbon cutters.
Main Activities:
- Support and encourage the project volunteers to work with each school to support their transition to becoming more energy efficient. This could include:
o Encouraging cluster working to share ideas, costs etc.. on a local level.
o Provision of practical advice relevant to an educational setting
o Sourcing incentives to encourage participation until behaviours are embedded!
o Ensuring that school understand what they stand to gain from saving energy
- Provide information and resources to support the project in each school
- Co-ordinate any visits to school from external agencies to reduce the admin burden on school staff
- Co-ordinate the volunteers attached to each school and the team who will operate the thermal imaging camera (ensure CRB checked etc…)
- Support each school to make individual applications to the Sustainable Development Fund to improve their energy efficiency as appropriate
- Administering expenses claims for the volunteer group e.g. mileage claims
- Make termly visits to each school to monitor progress and provide a termly update of project progress
- Mid point and end of project evaluation to demonstrate the impact of the project and learning for the future.
- To access support from external organisations were appropriate to help each school.
- Publicise the project with relevant organisations – HCC, NFDC, NAFSO etc

Special Conditions:
Work out of normal office hours may be required on an occasional basis.
A CRB check (Criminal Records Bureau check) will be required to work in school which will be arranged by New Forest Transition.
