A Totton/Ashurst Transition Group is developing! Eight of us met in the King Rufus pub last Wednesday to discuss what we might do as a project.

We want to encourage others to join us and so agreed that we would have a stall (if the organisers will let us) at the Totton Fun Day on 12 June 2010. We're all now thinking hard about what we will do there! Favourite at the moment is the Human Fruit Machine..... And we want to invite anyone interested to another more specific event to build up the Transition presence in Totton.

If you'd like to help or just find out more come along to our next meeting:

Tuesday 25 May 2010 at the Village Bells pub in Eling (we like pubs as you can see!)

There is a community garden next to St Mary's church, Eling Hill (next to Totton). It is an open garden where you put as much work as you feel you can into it, and pick veg fruit when it is ripe, you pick as much as you feel you have earned from the work you put in. We have community digging sessions there but also, it is the type of place where you can go down when ever you are free and work on your own or if you are just passing by you can go in for 10 mins and see if its watered. You can garden the garden with a method as best as you think you can ( as long as you know someone may garden differently) and the only rule is try to keep it as organic as possible, if you slip up, learn from it and try and make it organic again.

The garden at the Vicarage of St Marys Church, Eling is being made available as a community garden. Chris Rowberry, the Vicar, has kindly offered the garden to support the local food initiative being developed by New Forest Transition. The Totton and Eling Friends of the Earth group is coordinating the project at St Marys.

The first 'Community Dig' will take place on Sunday 1 March 2-4.30pm.

For more info email or ring Hannah on 07988379234

A small but highly focused group of us met at The Barn on Tuesday evening (9 December). The main outcome was that we decided to combine the forces of the Totton & Eling FoE group with that of New Forest Transition (Ashurst chapter!). Plans are already in place for the Totton Go Green Fair on 17 January and we will be seeking to get others to join the group from that event.

Also lined up......the owner of Sunnyfields Organic Farm is keen to give a talk about Real Food and there is to be a screening of An Inconvenient Truth at St Marys Church in Eling.

Anyone interested in joining the group shold contact Hannah or Richard - thanks.
