Willow Basket Making - 19 November - 10-4pm

This one day introduction to basket weaving is being held at Minstead Study Centre
and will led by Christine Brewster of the Stripey Basket Company

You will make a traditional English willow basket by pairing the base, staking up, weaving the upset and sides, finishing the top with a border and adding a handle if required. You will learn about preparing and selecting willow and have a beautiful, unique basket to take home.

Lunch will be provided (please let us know any dietary requirements).
Please bring a pair of secateurs if you have them and it is advisable to wear clothes that you don't mind getting mucky - willow can be a bit grubby!!

The cost of this course is £60

Join four children on their adventures as they are whisked away on their new magical carpet, with the help of a mysterious and fiery phoenix! When a golden egg falls into the nursery fire and hatches a talking Phoenix Robert, Cyril, Andrea and Jane begin a remarkable adventure that will see them travel the world on their new carpet. Adapted from the classic children's book by E. Nesbit, Forest Forge's magical winter production features beautiful live music, incredible puppets and a wonderful winter atmosphere.

Forest Forge Theatre Company will be doing two plays at the New Forest Festival in Minstead.

Inspired by those living and working in the New Forest today, these two plays explore the ties we have to home, what draws us back to our roots and how far we would compromise our loyalties for the sake of our birthplace.

Both Performances will be on Friday 23rd September.

Minstead Study Centre - Volunteer Gardeners Sought

Calling all green fingered volunteers!

Minstead Study Centre is looking for volunteers to help out with our organic garden.

We have a full time gardener who could do with an extra pair of hands planting, pricking out, weeding, watering etc

If you would be willing to give a little of your time all the children from visiting schools would feel the benefit.

Minstead Seed and Seedling Swap

Sunday 9th May

Minstead is having a seedling swap outside the village shop on Sunday 9th of May 10am -12.

It worked really well last year when we did it - people just brought along any surplus plants of any age and we had a pot for any donations that will hopefully go towards the community garden we are planning to create.

Transistion Meeting held at Furzey Gallery - well attended

We had a good turn out at the meeting (22 people), with several actions decided upon, and plenty of ideas discussed. Thanks to Tim Selwood for providing the location and refreshments, and letting us know a little about what is happening at Furzey Gardens and the Lodge.

1 - A notice board will be put up at the Village shop initially

2 - There will be a Seeds/Seedling exchange organised for Sunday 22 March (10-12) on the village green

3 - Next meeting will be held at the Minstead Study Centre Tuesday 7 April 7:30pm

Thank you to those who turned up to our first meeting at the study centre. There was a pleasing number of people with the following exciting ideas.

Our second meeting will be held on Tuesday 24^th February at The Gallery, Furzey Gardens, Minstead 7.30pm - 9.00pm. We want to get things rolling by setting up interest/action groups to cover the topics identified below. A number of people from the NF transition group will be on hand to offer advice. We would like to explore:

Garden sharing and allotments to grow our own food
Setting up a seedling bank
Better recycling in the village
A firewood co-op. Getting the local woods working more productively
Renewable energy sources and micro generation
Energy efficiency
Better community transport.
Courses on growing your own
A food cooperative

A fascinating talk, full of practical solutions that anyone can use to limit their impact on the environment. Brigit has been part of the successful BBC Series, Its Not Easy Being Green, which followed her family as they moved to Cornwall and renovated a 300 year old cottage. Brigit now runs The Big Green Idea Charity.
