Grand Clothes Swap Party - Ringwood

Ringwood Waldorf School are hosting a Grand Clothes Swap Party on Sat 5th November, 2-4pm. The event is a fundraiser both for School and the East Africa Crisis Appeal.

The clothes swap event came about as a way to encourage people to re-circulate and exchange their good quality clothes, to raise much needed funds for our school and international appeals and it's also a fun sociable event.

It works like this - people donate good quality mens, womens and childrens clothes, shoes and accessories (most donations come from within the school community and so are delivered a day or two beforehand but we also welcome donations on the day). Then you turn up at 2pm on the Saturday to 'shwap'! The school hall is crammed with clothes that have been carefully sorted by a team of volunteers. You simply go around and gather up clothes that you would like and make a donation on the way out. I should emphasise, this isn't a jumble sale - it's quite definitely a fundraising event (at previous events, people were making donations of £10 or £20 - of course it all depends on what you leave with). Nothing is priced - we ask people to think about what the items are worth - maybe what they would cost at a good second hand shop. Where possible we ask people to gift-aid their contributions.

You don't have to donate to come along.

There will also be a cafe run by volunteers at the school (the school is renowned for the many home-made cakes sold at events!) to revive you whilst you 'shwap'!

Ringwood Meetings

We have had a series of four film nights at the Ringwood Waldorf School run by Stef Kling on the subjects of Peak Oil, The financial market and tonight Cuba- the power of community. We have kept these initial meetings within the school but will branch out to the Ringwood public as our plans materialise. So far we have addressed the need for the community to become self sufficientish. We already have a local farm but want to get vegetable growing on site using the square foot garden method, and hopefully establish this within the school curriculum. We have already had a year of landwork last year in preparation for it so watch this space! Also,we plan to build a wind turbine posiibly on the farm site. We also need to put up solar panels on the school itself, does anyone which grant body would support this? More to follow!

Ringwood Transition

Ringwood transition have been very active organising our first few meetings. We have plans for multi- screen evenings on the subjects of peak oil and global warming followed by discussions. We hope to set up a self sufficiency plan for the population of the Ringwood Waldorf School and then expand it further into the local community. These events are being coordinated by Stef Kling and will be held at the Ringwood Steiner School in the spring. Watch this space for more details.

We also have permission to hold a local growers market during the summer months, this is being organised by Sana Stephens at the local organic/Fairtrade shop Timber! Anyone interested should contact Timber! for more details on 01425 483505.

We need to coordinate and link up with others in Ringwood. I seem to be linking things up at the moment so contact me, Wendy on 01425 461774 and let me know what is happening!

Ladies and Gents of Ringwood. We have had a number of individuals contacting us wishing to be part of a Transition Initiative in Ringwood. It would be great to get you all networking.
